Dear 5th, 6th, and 7th grade families,

I am so excited to teach math and science this year! God has been leading me to this position, and I am blessed to teach your children. This is going to be a great year! I have been praying over each child and the amazing things God in store for them this new academic year. This is my first-year stepping into a full-time teaching position, and I look forward to all the growth that comes with. I have taught 7th/8th grade math for a quarter, 4th grade math for a semester and tutored in all 7th/8th grade subjects for a year and a half. I look forward to this new opportunity and look forward to helping your children grow.

Homework:

Math and science homework will be assigned each night, but students will be given time in class or study hall to work on homework. Any classwork not completed during class time will become homework. All homework is due at the start of each day. All homework needs to be written in neat handwriting. Science homework should be written in complete sentences. Homework may not be done in pen. In math, all work must be shown and answers labeled correctly. Calculators should only be used to check your work. Points will be deducted if work is not shown, or answers are not labeled.

 

Late/Absent work policy:

Homework assignments will be counted as late if not turned in by 9:30 am. Late work will lose 10% each day that it is late and will not be accepted after 3 days. After 3 days the assignment will receive a zero in the gradebook. If a student is absent they will have the exact number of days missed to make up the assignment before it is considered late.

 

Grading:

Grades are weighted. Tests, quizzes, homework, and classwork each make up 25% of your student’s grade. Jupiter grades will be updated weekly, if not sooner. Students will be graded on accuracy and effort shown.

 

Materials needed each day:

· Textbooks

· 3 ring binder with 5-tab dividers (math HW, math Q/T, science HW, science Q/T, study guides)

· Composition notebook for science

· Lined paper or spiral notebook

· Pencils, pens, highlighters

· 3x5 notecards

· Academic planner

· Ruler

I am also available before school from 8:15 am to 9:00 am, or after school most days until 4:00 pm.

 

Get to know Ms. Kristy:

I am allergic to honey and beeswax, so we kindly ask that any treats or provided class snacks have honey or beeswax in them. Students will kindly be asked to sanitize their hands and desk (if needed) if eating any lunch/snack items that contain honey or beeswax. I appreciate your understanding.
